Connect subscription billing
How workspace subscription checkout works in the agency console — Stripe Checkout, tax, and billing address.
Scope: Shop Canvas Connect workspace billing (the Standard subscription in /admin/agency). This is separate from Shopify checkout on storefronts you build for clients.
Starting checkout
From the agency console, Start the trial or Manage billing opens Stripe Checkout in subscription mode. Quantity matches your billable production store count (minimum one). Development and staging stores stay free.
Tax and billing address
Public pricing is before tax. At Connect checkout:
- Stripe automatic tax is always enabled on the Checkout Session, so tax can be calculated when Stripe Tax is configured on the live price.
- A billing address is always required at checkout (
billing_address_collection=required). - If Shop Canvas already has a Stripe customer id for your account, Checkout reuses that customer and updates name and address from what you enter (
customer_updateaddress and name set to auto).
The total shown in Stripe Checkout includes tax when automatic tax applies to your address and price settings.
What this does not change
- Shopify checkout for your clients' shoppers is unchanged.
- Per-store subscription seats follow your billable production store count; they do not alter Shopify checkout behavior.
Operator notes
Live tax calculation also requires Stripe Tax enabled on the live Standard price in the Stripe Dashboard and a live-mode deploy with production Stripe keys. Code changes alone do not flip live billing.
First client launch
A remixed Shop Canvas starter project is connected to the client’s Shopify store (or honest demo), catalog is synced, a product page shows real fields, and Preview cart keeps items after reload.
Empty products / blank page triage
You know whether missing products are a connection, sync, CMS collection, or product binding issue, and the product page shows bound fields from the configured collection.
