Shop Canvas Docs

Your first store, one step at a time.

Connect Shopify to Framer with a visual setup guide. Follow the plugin steps, check your first product and cart, and hand checkout over to Shopify.

Marketplace listing unavailable

The Shop Canvas listing on the Framer Marketplace is unavailable right now (checked 9 October 2026). Email contact@shopcanvas.ai or book a demo and we will get you set up. The steps below describe the plugin once it is installed.

In this guide you will

01 Get three things ready

WhereBefore opening the plugin

You do not need to write code. Keep Shopify and Framer open in separate tabs while you follow this page.

Your Shopify store: access to products, sales channels and settings, plus permission to approve an app if you want the one-click connection. Start with one product you can use for testing.

Your Framer workspace: permission to edit the project and its CMS. Before publishing, check that your site plan includes CMS capacity for your catalog and Custom Code.

The Shop Canvas plugin: free to install from the Framer Marketplace at https://www.framer.com/marketplace/plugins/shop-canvas/. A Shop Canvas account is needed to connect or link a store to your account (Connect Shopify, the public token and code link, or your own Shopify app on shopcanvas.ai) and for a paid plan. Pasting a public Storefront token for one project needs no account. Shopify and Framer fees are separate; an AI service is optional.

What you should see

You can open both dashboards and edit your test product.

If you get stuck

Working on a client store? Ask its owner to give you access to products and sales channels before continuing.

Back to the indexNext: 02 Prepare Shopify for your Framer store →

02 Prepare Shopify for your Framer store

WhereShopify → your test product, and Sales channels → Headless

Shopify keeps the products and runs the checkout while Framer shows the storefront. Shop Canvas reads the catalog and creates carts with a public Storefront token. The plugin can create that token for you when you approve it in Shopify, so most of this step is about the product you will test with.

Open your test product. Set Status to Active and use Publishing → Manage to include the sales channel your storefront reads, such as Headless or a named storefront. Check that the product is available in the market you will test. Save.

In Shopify → Settings → Domains, note the permanent address ending in .myshopify.com. Use that address rather than a custom domain. The approval route fills it in for you; you will type it yourself if you connect by hand.

Only if you will connect by hand: install Shopify’s Headless channel, open a storefront, and find its PUBLIC Storefront API access token. Keep that screen open for step 4. Do not use a private token, Admin token, app secret or password.

What you should see

Your test product is Active, published to the channel your storefront reads, and available in the intended market.

If you get stuck

No permission to open Headless or to approve an app? Ask the store owner to enable your sales-channel access. A permission error is not a reason to create an Admin token as a workaround.

03 Open your own copy of the starter

WhereStarter remix → Framer Marketplace → Shop Canvas

A remix is your editable copy of a Framer project. Make changes in your own workspace.

Open the verified starter remix at https://framer.link/bDMDw5T?via=molham51, or use the remix link on this docs site. Give the new project your store’s name so you can recognize it later.

Confirm the project contains the shop, product and cart pages, a Products CMS collection, and the Shop Canvas components.

Install Shop Canvas from the Framer Marketplace at https://www.framer.com/marketplace/plugins/shop-canvas/ and open it in that same project. Before you connect a store, you can choose Try demo store to add a section with sample products.

What you should see

Your own project is open and the Shop Canvas panel is available inside it.

If you get stuck

Do not use the sparkly-mango paid demo project or the live /shop demo as your starter — remix your own editable copy at https://framer.link/bDMDw5T?via=molham51. Install the plugin from the Marketplace listing only; a plugin ZIP is not a buyer installer.

Back to the indexNext: 04 Connect your store →

04 Connect your store

WhereShop Canvas plugin → Store → Shopify connection

In the plugin there are three ways to connect: approve Shop Canvas in Shopify, link with a public Storefront token and a one-time code, or type a public Storefront token for this Framer project. If you made your own Shopify app for the store, link it on shopcanvas.ai instead; the plugin never asks for its secret. Sync and the setup checklist need the store linked to your Shop Canvas account, so use Link store to your account when Connect Shopify is unavailable. Every route checks the store against Shopify before it saves anything.

One-click: sign in to Shop Canvas in the plugin, choose Connect Shopify, then Continue to Shopify and approve access. Shop Canvas creates or reuses a public Storefront token for your store, and the domain, token and market fill in on their own.

When Connect Shopify is blocked: link with a public token and a one-time code. In Shopify admin, open Sales channels, Headless (add the free Headless channel from the Shopify App Store if it isn’t listed), select Create storefront and copy the Public access token. In the plugin, open Link store to your account, sign in, enter your .myshopify.com domain, paste the token and select Get my code. In Shopify admin, open Settings, Brand, add the code to your Slogan and save, then select Verify and link store in the plugin. You can remove the code afterwards. Only someone who manages the store can create the token and edit the brand, which is how Shop Canvas knows the store is yours.

Prefer a Shopify app? In the Shopify Dev Dashboard, create an app in the organisation that owns the store, add the Storefront scopes unauthenticated_read_product_listings, unauthenticated_read_product_inventory and unauthenticated_write_checkouts, release it and install it on the store. Then sign in at shopcanvas.ai/account/link-store with the same Shop Canvas account and paste the app’s Client ID and secret from App settings (or, for an older app from Settings, Apps, Develop apps, its Admin API access token). The plugin never asks for these: they go to Shop Canvas once, are checked with Shopify and are never shown again. Back in the plugin, the store appears under Your connected stores in the setup checklist; choose Use this store, or Refresh setup status if it isn’t listed yet.

Or enter a public Storefront token for this project: the permanent .myshopify.com domain, without https:// or a page path; the public Storefront API access token from step 2; and the two-letter country code you sell into. This works for cart and catalog in this project, but does not link the store to your account. Keep token values out of support screenshots and agent chats.

Check the country before you save. It decides the market Shop Canvas reads prices and availability for, and the current plugin defaults to AE.

Choose Check and save (or Re-check and save if already connected). Read the store name, country and currency it returns, and any shipping-zone warning, before moving on.

What you should see

The confirmation names your store and resolves to the country and currency you intended.

If you get stuck

No Connect Shopify button? Sign in to Shop Canvas first. Shopify says the install link can’t be used? Use Link store to your account. “We couldn’t see the code in your brand” means the code isn’t saved in Settings, Brand, Slogan yet; save it and verify again. “That token can’t read your products”: in Headless, open the storefront’s Storefront API permissions and allow product listings, inventory and checkouts. “Connection needs another try” after you approve in Shopify? The store may already be linked to a different Shop Canvas account: sign in with that account, or email contact@shopcanvas.ai. Wrong currency? Check Shopify Markets and the country field before syncing.

Back to the indexNext: 05 Bring your products into Framer →

05 Bring your products into Framer

WhereShop Canvas plugin → Store → Sync catalog

Framer CMS is the product list your page designs use, and the collection stays yours: the plugin fills it, you can edit any field, and it remains in your project whether or not you keep using the plugin. Preview product changes shows what a sync would do; it saves nothing.

Choose Preview product changes. Read how many products would be added, updated or removed, and open See sync details to check a sample product.

Read the image line before applying. The default keeps the images already curated in Framer; the other choice replaces product images from Shopify.

If a URL or slug conflict is reported, stop and resolve it before applying. The current plugin can still allow it when conflicts exist.

When the preview matches what you expect, choose Apply product sync. Open Framer → CMS → Products and inspect the title, image and Product ID of your test product.

What you should see

The plugin reports the completed sync and the test product appears in Products.

If you get stuck

Zero products? Recheck Active status, channel publishing and market availability. Products removed from Shopify are marked as drafts in Framer, not deleted. Anyone can run the preview; applying changes needs a Framer editor with CMS permissions.

Back to the indexNext: 06 Turn on prices, cart and checkout →

06 Turn on prices, cart and checkout

WhereShop Canvas plugin → Store → Cart & checkout setup

The runtime is the small piece of code that makes prices, the cart and checkout work on your published site. You paste a short loader snippet into Framer yourself; the full runtime is loaded from Shop Canvas over HTTPS.

In the plugin, open Store → Cart & checkout setup and choose Copy snippet.

In Framer, open Settings → Code → Add Script. Name it Shop Canvas commerce, paste the snippet, choose Start of head, all pages and run once, then save.

Back in the plugin, choose I pasted this into Custom Code, then publish your site and choose Show published site and look for the script in the page source.

Keep exactly one Shop Canvas commerce script. If your starter already contains the commerce components, keep them; before using Components → Install on an edited project, duplicate the project or back up your code files, because the current installer can overwrite edits.

What you should see

The plugin confirms the runtime is set up, or one Shop Canvas commerce script is saved in Custom Code at Start of head for all pages.

If you get stuck

Paste freezes or fails? Do not repeatedly add scripts. Preserve the previous working code and contact setup support with the snippet’s character count and kit version—without the token.

07 Test one product from start to checkout

WhereYour published Framer test URL → product → cart → Shopify

The editor canvas alone cannot prove checkout works. Publish to a test URL when you are ready to run this check, before promoting the store.

Open the test URL in a fresh browser tab. Find your test product and check the image, price, currency and stock against Shopify.

Choose a variant, add it to the cart, change the quantity and remove it. Add it again and refresh the page to check the cart state.

Choose Checkout. Confirm Shopify opens with the right product, variant, quantity, price and currency. Use the checkout URL produced by the cart; do not manually rewrite it.

Repeat the product and cart checks on a phone. A successful redirect is only a handoff check. Before accepting sales, complete a controlled test order using Shopify’s documented test-payment flow; confirm order records and, for digital products, file delivery.

What you should see

Your real product reaches the correct Shopify checkout, and your controlled order and delivery checks pass before launch.

If you get stuck

A password page or checkout error means testing is not complete. Use the launch checklist below; do not assume a working cart means payments and downloads are ready.

Resolve configuration findings

For the current Shop Canvas plugin. Store → Advanced → Shop Canvas account → Check configuration runs these checks on your device; nothing from your Framer project is uploaded. They describe your saved settings, not a live test of your published store.

Products collection

The saved settings do not show a product collection in Framer CMS. This is the product list used by CMS-based pages.

In Shop Canvas, open Store → Sync catalog. Select Preview product changes, review the changes, then select Apply product sync.

The first import can resolve both the collection and product-field findings. Product details sections that read directly from Shopify do not need a CMS import just to display products.

Product fields

The saved settings do not show all the CMS fields needed for product details such as prices, options or images.

Open Store → Sync catalog → Preview product changes. Review the proposed fields and product changes, then select Apply product sync when they are correct.

If Products collection also needs attention, start with that import. You do not need to create the fields one by one. Review image settings before applying changes to a collection you have already customized.

Component files

Some component files differ from the current kit or need review. This can include your own edits; it does not necessarily mean the components are broken.

Open Store → Advanced → Component files & recovery. Select Review on a flagged file. Choose Keep my file to preserve it, or Back up and replace if you want the kit version.

Do not replace a customized file just to clear this finding. Keeping an edited file may leave it flagged for review. A replacement saves a recovery copy; check your design afterwards.

Update the findings

After making changes, open Shop Canvas → Store → Advanced → Shop Canvas account and select Check configuration again. The check runs in the plugin and shares nothing, so findings on your account page come only from an earlier plugin version and do not update.
